An original editorial campaign for Karina Iglesias, an independent fashion designer based in Queretaro Mexico. Karina’s new collection expresses an emotional and personal approach to the confusion involved in creative processes. The desperation that comes with loss of creativity and loss of inspiration. As a result of pushing through the pain and believing in one’s art Karina ended up with 2 wonderful looks that illustrate the perfect/imperfect process of creation, with its ups and downs, leading to an outstanding result.

Sequía which means “drought” in Spanish was born. This editorial had to highlight the solitude that comes with creative deprivation. Like its name, it feels like a drought. I focused on both close ups and long shots to express various angles of the same concept. Emotionality had to be a recurring element, long shot or close up the viewer had to be able to feel the drought, see the drought and connect with the image. Our Mexican desert location was the right place to shoot this amazing project.

Its all in the details. Karina’s pieces look great from a far but also from up close, it was important to highlight both details from the garments as well as nature’s details to contrast and unity both.

Editorial Stories

March 07, 2016

I will attempt to make it a habit and write down important facts about the different editorial stories I have done through the years. I believe its especially important to keep a “log” because these are truly amazing experiences that I get to share with amazing, creative, energetic individuals that have the same passion for art and self expression as I do. I consider myself very lucky, for being able to be a photographer, having a great responsibility and be able to shine a light on amazing individuals and their craft, give them the right visibility is all that matters to me. Throughout my photoshoots we share more than what is shown in the final product, it takes a village to reach a satisfactory end goal. This is an inside look into who and what is part of these editorials.

Bandidos

March 07, 2016

Bandidos comes as a salvation & an impactful statement for all young Mexican independent fashion designers. We live in a country that is still lives under conservative views around fashion and clothing in general. Genderless apparel is hardly a reality in our close-minded society, following a different style than what the regionally imposed uniform dictates us to wear is an act of bravery & truly a powerful social statement. Bandidos (Bandits in spanish) explores the gender scope of clothing with the ultimate hope of breaking the barriers we have grown to live with & as a result, dissengage from them completely. Independent local designer Patricio Zorilla introduces his brand which challenges the conventional ideals of clothing. Fashion is self expression & individual liberation, it should never be restrained or limited, censured or prohibited. Throughout 2021-2022 fluidity has flourished in our country & we intend to keep it going.
